Mixed fortunes for Scotland U15s

06 Aug

Scotland v Guernsey [Scorecard]

Scotland U15s suffered a bad day at the office on Monday as they played their first match in the ICC European U15 Division 1 against Guernsey.

Guernsey’s Nairn Guilbert opened the batting and contributed 33, after they had won the toss and elected to bat first.

Scotland managed to take wickets at regular intervals early on to have the opposition on 109/7 in the 25th over.

Contributions from De Carteret (24) and Perry (13*) helped push the score to 159, which would prove vital in the final outcome.

Pick of the Scotland bowlers were Andrew Appleton (2/30) and Kaleem Barreto (3/23) as Guernsey were bowled out in the 37th over.

The Scots then suffered a torrid time at the start of their innings as they lost 8 wickets for 42 runs, with number 10 batsman, Appleton, top-scoring with 18 as Scotland slumped to 86 all-out.

Scotland v Netherlands [Scorecard]

It was an excellent all-round performance by the Scots in a rain affected match against the Netherlands the following day, after Rory Johnston won the toss and chose to bat first.

It was the captain Johnston who led the way with 53 from 69 deliveries. Findlay McCreath ensured he would keep the momentum going with an unbeaten 66, while there was also a half century for James Dickinson, as Scotland piled on the runs after their 37 overs.

The rain kept the players off the pitch for some time, but when play did resume, the Scots came flying out the traps when Oliver Brown had Michael Skerrit caught first ball of the innings.

Nicholal Bett struck 34, but when he was bowled by Baretto, Scotland took control. Johnston then completed a perfect individual performance, taking 5 wickets in just 3 overs to give Scotland a fine victory.
