New Lead Child Protection Officer and PVG Administrator
Cricket Scotland are pleased to announce the appointment of Colin McDougall as the new lead Child Protection Officer for Cricket Scotland.
Colin has an extensive background in child protection and sport. He is a lifelong member of Greenock Cricket Club where he has been the Child Protection Officer for over 10 years.
This follows on from a career in Strathclyde Police where he was heavily involved in Safeguarding and child protection covering prevention, investigation and education. Since retiring from the police, Colin has concentrated on child protection and its importance within sport.
He is a Sportscotland accredited tutor in Safeguarding which brings him in to contact with coaches and volunteers from a wide spectrum of sports allowing him to view the problems encountered and also, the good practice of different disciplines. Colin has led the Sports Council, Sport Inverclyde in Safeguarding training providing an innovative approach to its provision and has led the promotion of child protection at club level.
Through Colin’s club involvement in cricket, he has an inside perspective of the manner of club operations. In the role of Lead Child Protection Officer, he is ideally positioned to have both a strategic and practical approach to child protection and how it impacts and supports cricket in Scotland.
He will be tasked with reviewing and improving safeguarding processes within Cricket Scotland and providing guidance and advice to clubs. We hope to have further communication out to clubs and stakeholders in the near future.
We are also announcing that Ramsay Allan will be taking over the administration of the PVG process. Ramsay is in regular contact with all clubs in his role as Administration Manager for Cricket Scotland, so it is logical for him to take on this process. Ramsay will work closely with Colin to ensure we administer this important process efficiently and effectively.
Cricket Scotland are committed to making sure cricket is a safe and inclusive sport for all participants and we hope these appointments will ensure we have the best possible processes and systems in place right across our sport.
If you have any queries regarding PVGs please contact Ramsay directly –firstname.lastname@example.org
