Saltires squad for triple-header

12 Jun

Saltires logoThe Scottish Saltires have named a squad of 14 who will travel down to England to play in a Yorkshire Bank 40 triple-header, starting with Durham on Sunday followed by Lancashire and Derby on Tuesday (16th June) and Thursday (18th June).

Preston Mommsen will continue to captain the team and is bolstered by the returning Majid Haq after a hamstring injury which kept him out of the recent matches against Essex and Australia A.

There is also a spot for promising all-rounder Ruaidhri Smith, who has impressed for Glamorgan 2XI recently. 18 year old Smith joins Matthew Cross and Freddie Coleman as graduates from the Scotland squad which competed in the ICC U19 World Cup last year, who have made step up to senior representative cricket.

New Zealander Tom Latham is also available and will be looking to make an impact for the Saltires who chase their first win of the 2013 campaign.

The squad will also have a number of experienced hands at their disposal; Gordon Drummond is available for the opening Durham fixture while Neil Carter will join up with the team for the trips to Old Trafford, where the Scots are unbeaten in their previous three visits, and the County Ground Derbyshire.

Cricket Scotland contract players, Richie Berrington, Moneeb Iqbal and Gordon Goudie are also selected, as is Calum MacLeod who batted impressively with scores of 51 and 30no against the Australian outfit last weekend.

Scotland coach Pete Steindl commented, “We are looking forward to welcoming back Richie Berrington who returns to YB40 action after missing the fixtures against Surrey and Essex.

Majid Haq is also back in the squad, although we’ll have to manage his workload following a recent hamstring injury.”
