Scotland complete training camp in Dubai

19 Nov

Scotland’s cricketers will return home tomorrow (20th November) after nine days of intensive work at a training camp in Dubai.

The camp has been an important part of preparation for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be taking place in February and March next year.

When quizzed on the camp by team-mate Michael Leask for, Mommsen said, "It has been a productive few days for us, the facilities here have been awesome. We’ve had access to the main ICC ground [at the academy] and the net facilities, as well as the Dubai7s, which has been world class."

When asked what impact Somerset's Director of Cricket Matt Maynard has had during the camp Mommsen replied, “I’ve been very impressed with his style of coaching and what he has added. He has a very good presence about him, and has quickly earned the respect of the boys.

He has brought different drills, different mind-set, and a different way of thinking. Personally, I’m thinking differently about how I’m approaching thinking, especially the way I’m playing spin and being able to manipulate the ball.”

The camp was also the final opportunity to make an impression with Coach Grant Bradburn, before he selects his squad in December.

Mommsen also received the news that he had been awarded Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year while out in Dubai, “I’m thrilled to bits, it was a very nice surprise. I personally see that as a team award for the hard work we’ve put in over the last 12 months, and probably wouldn’t have been in a position to win that if it wasn’t for us playing winning cricket.

Hopefully in 12 months-time we’ll have another boy standing up there”.

Preston Mommsen will be chatting to Geoff Webster on BBC Sport Nation on Saturday morning (21 November) from 11:05am on Radio Scotland
