Scotland suffered their second defeat in the Tri Series in the United Arab Emirates as they were felled by their hosts by 4 wickets in Dubai.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first and had made another steady start as the opening partnership between Matthew Cross and Kyle Coezter yielded 50 runs.

Unfortunately for the Scots, Cross was clean bowled for 24 before Coetzer (30), Calum MacLeod (8) and Josh Davey (6) were out, leaving Scotland teetering on 85/5.

Richie Berrington was the only other Scot to make a significant contribution with 50 from 88 deliveries, as other wickets tumbled around him.

The end of the innings came to an end in the 46th over as the final six Scottish batsmen could only muster 46 runs between them to set the UAE 175 to win.

Scotland had made an encouraging start in the field as they claimed four wickets for 39 as Safyaan Sharif (2/24) and Josh Davey (2/17) made early inroads.

Things were soon snatched away for the Scots as a 62-run stand between Muhammad Usman and Adnan Mufti guided the UAE home by four wickets.

At the end of the match Kyle Coetzer said, “We were 50/0 and a cluster of wickets put us under a bit of pressure, clearly a few runs short but it was a fantastic fighting effort from Richie, but the top order just missed out.

Going into the second half, it was a grafting effort from the bowlers and just missing that half chance that would have put them on the back-foot.”

The Tri-Series concludes when the UAE play Hong Kong on Wednesday in Dubai.
