Scotland Trial Match 1
Probables 232/9 (50 overs) Munsey 75, Iqbal 40, Hafeez 4/39, Tahir 2/27 lost to Possibles 236/7 (49 overs) Berrington 80*, Gardiner (33), Evans 29* by 3 wickets.
An unbeaten knock of 80 by Richie Berrington helped the Possibles overcome the Probables in the first of two trial matches on Monday at the Grange, Edinburgh.
George Munsey opened the innings for the Probables with some lusty strokes, as he made his way to 75 from 83 deliveries, aided by Ross McLean (19), to take the score to 96 before the latter was bowled by Hamza Tahir.
The Probables innings then stuttered with the introduction of Anwar Hafeez whose off-spin claimed the key wickets of Preston Mommsen and Cameron Farell in quick succession.
Moneeb Iqbal attempted to get things back on track with a battling 40, but none of the lower order could reach double figures, to conclude their allotted 50 overs on 323.
In reply, the Possibles seemed to be going along nicely, with contributions from Hamish Gardiner (33) and Hafeez (20). Wickets however did start to tumble on a spinning wicket.
Berrington looked composed and was striking the ball well as he reached 50 from 71 deliveries. Calvin Burnett batted aggressively and made 20, including a big six over mid-wicket, on his way to 20, before he was bowled by Mark Watt.
Alastair Evans was called to show his batting skills and together with Berrington, helped the Probables to a three wicket win.
