Scotland Trial Matches

04 Aug

Two Scotland XI’s will contest two trial matches at the Grange, Edinburgh on Monday (4th) and Thursday (7th) with competition for places in the national team gathering pace.

The Scotland Cricket team has a major programme over the next six months building towards the 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

These two trial games will provide our local based high performing cricketers the opportunity to force their names forward for future selection.

The two teams of even strength will contest two trials over the 50 over format next week. With a big international programme over the next 12 months across all formats, Cricket Scotland selectors and Head Coach Grant Bradburn are searching to reward consistent significant performances.

Grant BradburnHead Coach, Grant Bradburn, commented, “Clearly the ICC Cricket World Cup in February is the major event ahead and these trials are just another opportunity for Scotland based players to have a clear pathway to the national team through performance.

Strong internal rivalry is building in the National Squad. Playing for your country is a huge honour and we are openly fostering an environment of high competition for places and a drive to continually improve. I have been extremely impressed with the work that has been put in from players during our recent training block throughout July.

Now as we approach series vs New Zealand A and Ireland over the next 6 weeks, it is now time for performance on the field. I look forward to seeing our local players grasp those opportunities this week.”

Following the trials the National Selectors will name their squad for the New Zealand A series.
