Scotland U15 v Durham at Hamilton Crescent on Sunday 20th July 2014

Inserted on a rain affected pitch Scotland did very well to reach 210 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. That occurred due to three determined partnerships. Rory Johnson and Owais Shah put on 49 for the second wicket and had to survive a lively opening from Baig and Potts.

Then Shah was joined by Fin McCreath and they realised 51 for the third wicket and looked very controlled in the process while Fin and James Dickinson shared in a sixth wicket stand of 45. The pick of the Durham bowling was M Potts who took 4 for 34 and off spinner Steel who took 2 for 37.

That Durham could manage only 109 in reply is testament to how well the home side had batted in difficult conditions and a measure of the improvement in the Scots fielding at this level.

Itty Malik and Olly Brown bowled aggressively first up causing numerous false strokes and nailing a wicket apiece. Skipper Johnson then deployed his four spinners on a drying track to strangle the opposition.

All contributed wickets, Andrew Appleton (2), Will Hardie (1), Rory Johnson (1) and James Dickinson (2). Only number three Greenwell looked dangerous, scoring 32, prior to holing out to mid-wicket.

With three games to play in the section the home side have put themselves in a strong position to win the group and progress to the knock out stages.
