Scotland U15s and 17s defeat Netherlands
An impressive century from Scotland U15 captain Callum Garden helped ensure his side would bounce back from their 4 runs defeat to Jersey the previous day against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Scotland had batted first in Rugby amassed a huge total led by their ‘skippers 124 runs, despite losing both openers with 33 on the board.
Garden had solid support from Jack Bradburn (32) and Aidan Brown (36) as the young Scots reached the total of 284/8 from their 50 overs.
The Netherlands did get off to a positive start with Sebastiaan van Lent (41) and Sean Walsh (64), but when both were removed the Netherlands batting line-up collapsed.
Ihtisham ul Haq returned with 3/19, while Robbie McCallum and Ben Plomer both took two wickets as the Scots wrapped up a convincing win by 117 runs.
It was a tighter affair in the U17s match against their Dutch compatriots in Kampong CC. Batting first the Scots were bowled out for 166. Handy contributions from Harris Carnegie (47) Dickinson (29), Khan (24) and Robertson (23) ensured they would have a decent total to defend.
The Dutch made a good stab at the total, but an inspired spell from Rory Allardice who took 4/40 ensured their opponents would finish up 17 runs shy of the total.
The U15s will play Denmark tomorrow (7 August) before concluding against Ireland on Saturday.
