Scotland played tournament hosts the UAE in the Plate Quarter Final at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Sunday.
After winning the toss the UAE captain Rohit Singh asked his opponents to bat first on a green wicket in Abu Dhabi.
Andrew Umeed and Ross McLean opened the innings and the pair put on 34 runs before McLean was clean bowled by Omer Mohammed.
Mohammed continued to attack and blew away the Scotland top-order, claiming 4 wickets for only 24 runs. Umeed’s contribution of 23 was the highest score of the innings as the youngsters found the UAE bowlers difficult to deal with.
Zander Muir, Gavin Main and Chris Sole all made double figures, but couldn’t go on as Scotland were bundled out for 119 in the 38th over.
Scotland struck early on in the UAE reply as Main removed D’Souza for 0. Abdul Sabri picked up 2 wickets but Mehra (41), Chopra (26) and Vijay Kumar (28) made sure the hosts would secure a 7 wicket win.
After the match coach Craig Wright said, “It was a very disappointing performance today. It was a bad toss to lose on a well grassed wicket, but we are capable of much more with the bat than we have shown today and in recent games.
The challenge now is for the players to pick themselves up and show some character to ensure we give ourselves a chance of finishing the tournament with two strong performances in our remaining matches.”
Scotland will now play Papa New Guinea in the Plate Playoff 1 on Monday.
