Scotland XI claim 6 wicket win
The Scotland XI beat the North West Dragons yesterday with a hardnosed display with bat and ball.
It was another bright day in Potchestroom and with Scotland XI winning the toss they invited their hosts to bat first.
Wihan Lubbe (41) and Kagiso Rapulana (42) ensured the Scots would be set a target of 203, after Alasdair Evans bowled with good pace early on to return with figures of 3-38. Gordon Goudie also provided good support to finish with 2-45.
Calum MacLeod set the tone during the Scotland reply with an aggressive batting display; his score of 58 allowed the rest of the batsmen to pace their innings.
Richie Berrington continued his good form with a hard-hitting 75* and, together with Michael Leask (29*), the pair saw the Scotland XI reach the target with 7.2 overs to spare to seal a convincing 6 wicket win.
Afterwards Coach Pete Steindl said, “It was a much more clinical performance. We took control of the match during the first innings and restricted their batters with an effective fielding and bowling display – we took wickets at important times, so I was pleased with that.
During our innings we put in a ruthless display, especially at the top of the [batting] order, Calum [MacLeod] was positive and got us well ahead of the run-rate. Richie [Berrington] was composed and went through the gears well. It was another pleasing sight to see young Michael Leask in the middle at the end of the match too.”
