Scotland XI defeat Canterbury Country

A Scotland XI continued their tour of New Zealand ahead of the World Cup Qualifying competition with a 142 run victory over Canterbury Country at the Mainpower Oval. 

Scotland batted first in sunny conditions and set a total of 367/6 from their allotted 50 overs, as captain Kyle Coetzer (80) and Calum MacLeod (82) shared a 162 run partnership for the first wicket. 

Matt Machan and Freddie Coleman kept piling on the runs with half centuries, while the lower order all chipped in to help finish the Scotland innings with a flourish. 

Canterbury Country again found themselves up against a disciplined bowling attack as Rob Taylor, Majid Haq and Gordon Goudie all picked up two wickets. 

Gordon Drummond and Matt Machan also claimed a wicket each as the hosts were bowled out for 225, giving the Scotland XI their third consecutive victory of the tour. 

Alasdair Evans played to allow Scotland to rest Iain Wardlaw and Safyaan Sharif ahead of an intensive run of fixtures.

Scotland will now play two warm up games against PNG (10 Jan) and Namibia (11 Jan) before the group phase of the competition.
