Scotland XI v Kolkata
A Scotland XI took on Indian Premier League outfit, the Kolkata Knight Riders earlier today in the second match of their South African tour.
At the toss Knight Rider’s captain, Gautum Gambir guessed correctly and elected to bat first on a warm, sunny day at Senwes Park.
Gambir opened the batting with Manvinder Bisla, and the pair got off to a solid start moving the score to 37 in the 5th over, before Gambir was dismissed by Gordon Goudie with the score on 37.
Bisla was just getting into his stride and when joined with Manoj Tiwary, they took the attack to the Scottish bowlers with a display of fine cricket strokes. Both retired, with Bisla finishing on 40* and Tiwary completing his half century before heading back to the pavilion.
The big hitting Yusuf Pathan then came to the crease to smack 31 from 18 balls, as the Knight Riders finished their innings on 176-6.
Good spells of bowling from Gordon Goudie (4-2-34) and Richie Berrington (4-2-29) helped restict the IPL batsmen.
In reply, the Scottish batsmen struggled to keep up with the asking rate set as bowlers Iqbal Abdullah, Shakib Al Hasan and Rajat Bhatia struck early to seize momentum. After 14 overs Scotland found themselves on 83/4.
However, some brave strokeplay by captain, Preston Mommsen (58* from 36b) and Ryan Flannigan (36 from 24b) towards the end of their innings saw the middle order add 69 runs in the last six overs, to finally complete their inning on 152/5 - 22 runs short of the Knight Riders total.
