Paddy Sadler bowlingSeveral members of the Scotland squad have been in first and second XI action at their respective counties over the past week,  as the English season now gets underway, and it’s a matter of counting down the days until the 2013 Scottish domestic season begins.

Last Wednesday some of the Scotland’s most promising youngsters were involved in a dramatic match at Fenner’s cricket ground where Cambridge MCCU played Oxford MCCU.

It was a match that included three Scotland U19 players who had previously represented their country at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup last year.  Paddy Sadler was representing Cambridge while Freddie Coleman and Henry Edwards turned out for Oxford.

Cambridge made 252/7 after their allocated 50 overs. In reply, Henry Edwards made 22 before being run out, and Freddie Coleman, who has earned a summer contract with Warwickshire, was left stranded on 42*as the match went down to the final delivery with the Cambridge coming out on top by a solitary run. Kyle Coetzer and David Murphy featured in Northants opening Liverpool Victoria County Championship match (LVCC) of the season against Glamorgan.  Although their Welsh opponents managed to hang on for a draw, thanks to a number of rain delays, there was little doubt that Northants had the better of the match.

The pair will again be in action for Northants in their next LVCC match on Thursday as they host Essex at Northampton.

Iain Wardlaw will push his case for a Yorkshire first XI spot in an impressive looking team when he turns out for Yorkshire 2nd XI against their Durham counterparts tomorrow.

Also in cricketing action this week are Ross Mclean, Aman Bailwal and Alex Baum who are with the Scottish Student Universities team in a tour of England.
