Scottish Cricket raises funds for Nepal Earthquake Appeal
The Scottish Cricketing Community is coming together to raise funds for the DEC Nepal Earthquake Fund when the Nepal national men's team visits Scotland at the end of July to play two games at Ayr in the ICC World Cricket League Championship on 29th and 31st July.
Nepal has only one high ranked sporting team in mainstream world sport and that is their cricket team. Cricket is a huge passion for the Nepalese people.
As a country it is obviously struggling to recover from the devasting earthquake that struck earlier this year and we are keen to do something to help a fellow cricketing nation in difficulty.
We are therefore hoping that our clubs (who are being contacted individually with details) will support the initiative by: -
1. Asking all players during the weekend of 1/2 August to contribute at least £1 for their tea during games towards the appeal
2. Selling tickets in a raffle being organised by Cricket Scotland
The intention is to keep the activity as simple as possible as all our clubs are very busy at this stage in the season. Of course if clubs would like to raise funds in any other way as well then that would be great.
Pagoda PR in Edinburgh are very kindly supporting the campaign on a pro bono basis and will be providing materials and advice to clubs to help them promote the campaign, and the club's part in that, in their local communities. Other activities will be undertaken at the national level to publicise the fund raising.
We hope this initiative to help another cricketing nation is something that the entire cricketing community in Scotland will be keen to support.
Thank you in advance to all of you for your help.
