Grange CC for the 4th year in a row was honoured this July to again take part again in the Shrewsbury School Junior Cricket Festival.
A combined U11/U12 team of 9 Grange players together with 3 from Carlton and 1 from SMRH performed brilliantly and won 5 out of 6 matches played, only losing to the eventual Festival Champions.
Grange is very fortunate to be involved in the Shrewsbury week given that it pits what is in effect a Club junior squad against fully streamed/ selected English County and Minor County opposition across 5 days of high standard Cricket, played at a frankly excellent facility.
The Boys played four 40-over games in the main competition and also two 20-over games on the 20/20 day. That is 400 overs of cricket in 5 days!
The Cricket took place in quite outstanding weather and the squad played the game to a level that reflected incredibly well on them, their clubs and Scottish cricket in general.
Grange finished a record 3rd in the 40-over competition beating Derbyshire CCC in the 3rd/4th play off and only losing to eventual champions, Shropshire. In the 20/20 competition Grange best first class opposition again in Northamptonshire CCC and Derbyshire CCC to finish joint top.
All of the boys contributed strongly but standout performances included four members of the squad passing 50 during the week (Finlay/ Charlie P/ Charlie BJ/ Harry), a 140 4th wicket unbeaten partnership between Finlay and Charlie P in the 20/20 win over Derby, 190 runs for Finlay at an average of 63, 8 wickets for Freddie, outstanding swing bowling from Gregor and finally Charlie P won an individual festival award for best all-rounder of the week with 9 wickets and 115 runs. Excellent outcomes for the boys who behaved impeccably all week.
