Smith and Jawad lead Warriors to CS T20 Blitz victory

Neil Smith led the Warriors to victoryThe Western Warriors completed the Forthill double over an out-of-sorts Highlanders outfit as they surged to a comprehensive T20 Blitz triumph at Broughty Ferry.

Having already claimed the scalp of the hosts on their own territory in the longer-game, the visitors carried on where they had left off and didn’t give their rivals a look in.

Warriors now turn their focus to the all-or-nothing showdown with the Eastern Knights at Titwood later this month.

Another victory would keep alive their prospects of lifting the championship, however any other outcome would see the trophy heading in the Edinburgh direction.

Highlanders had given themselves a platform with an opening stand of 30, however after the departures in quick succession of skipper Craig Wallace, ex-Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer and form-horse Chris Greaves, there was no way back.

They could only limp to 127 for eight as spin pair Con de Lange and Mitchell Rao kept the shackles on at a crucial stage.

Coetzer’s 36 was the top score before he was comfortably run out attempting an ambitious second run.

There were few alarms during the Warriors’ pursuit and they cruised across the finish line with more than three overs and six wickets in hand.

Wicketkeeper Neil Smith (36 not out) and Fazal Jawad (27 not out) completed the job.

Coetzer was the prime performer with the ball for the northerners with three for 39, though there was a tidy initial spell by Liam Sweeney.
