Stirling County fend off George Watson’s College in a high-scoring, 11-run Women’s National League win at New Williamfield.

George Watson's captain Kathryn Bryce won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bowl first. Stirling County posted 169-6 in their 20 overs, largely down to a 50 from Rachel Scholes and a quick fire 40 from Kari Anderson.

George Watson's openers Kathryn Bryce and Rebecca Oliver looked comfortable in the early stages of the run chase. Oliver was first to go bringing Sarah Bryce to the wicket. The Bryces went about chasing down the total with great match awareness, hitting the bad ball for 4 (or 6!), turning 1s into 2s and keeping out the good ball.

Just after Kathryn reached 50, Jo Ashcroft got the important breakthrough when she had her caught behind by Catherine Berrill. Sarah Bryce kept up the charge but couldn't quite lead George Watson's to victory as they fell 11 runs short, Sarah finishing on 79 not out.

A fantastic match, a fitting for a final in so many ways. Compliments to all players for making it such a great final. Special thanks to Ollie Rae and Katie McGill for umpiring and David Potter for taking photographs.

Many congratulations to Stirling County Ladies, 2015 Women’s National League Champions.
