Strong Development XI Performance Despite Draw

Scotland Development XI took control of their 2 day 2 innings fixture against Yorkshire Academy at Weetwood Hall, Leeds today.

Skipper Michael English won the toss and elected to bat in a match restricted to 60 overs maximum in the first innings.

The Scots batted positively despite the early loss of Michael Jones, with Ross McLean and Chris Greaves putting on a partnership of 147 for the second wicket. McLean departed for 74 shortly after lunch, however Greaves continue on with good support from Ben Wilkinson (31) and Christian Robertson (20). He was finally dismissed for 107 before Scotland finished their innings on 262 - 7.

Yorkshireman reply was solid without ever being dynamic  - with spinners Rao and Tahir bowling tightly on a reasonable batting surface. The home side finished on 121 -1 after 41 overs of their first innings, with an intriguing day 2 looming.
Scotland Development XI came within 2 wickets of what would have been a well deserved win against Yorkshire Academy at Weetwood Hall Leeds. the match was eventually drawn with the Yorkshire en hanging on 8 wickets down and still 78 runs short of their target of 302 to win.
The Scots took a 141 run first innings lead with the hosts declaring overnight, and went about setting a challenging target in impressive style. Michael Jones top scored with 44 supported by 31 from skipper Michael English and 32 from first innings centurion Chris Greaves, as the Scots scored 160 - 4 declared in 30 overs, to leave the Academy needing 302 to win in 70 overs.
New ball pairing of Adrian Neil (2-23)and Elliot Ruthven (2-27) took three early wickets between them putting Yorkshire on the back foot. Hamza Tahir bowled 22 overs unchanged for 44 runs but to no avail as Yorkshire Academy hung on doggedly for a draw.
