Successful Launch of Girl's and Women's Cricket in Fife

13 Sep

Fife Community Cricket held it's first ever Come and Try Event for Girls and Women at Falkland Cricket Club on Sunday.

A total of 25 participants of varying ages from across the Kingdom took part in a fun filled morning's cricket. The session was excellently led by Beth and Justine who both currently play for St Andrews University Ladies.

The majority, including many mums of girls who play, had never played cricket before but were all soon learning how to catch, throw, bowl and bat. The early nerves of a few soon turned to laughter as everyone soon realised what a fun sport cricket is. A barbecue followed the cricket when the morning's enjoyment was relived.

Working closely with Cricket Scotland plans are already in place to build on this fantastic platform for the development of female cricket in Fife. The next phase will see indoor sessions taking place over the winter with more details being announced shortly.

In addition to those who attended Sunday's event any other budding female cricketers out there are also most welcome to come along to any future training sessions. Looking further ahead to the summer of 2017 the aim is to play some matches against other Girls/Women's teams with Falkland acting as the base for training and coaching.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
