Tranent v President's XI
An amazing evening game of cricket at Meadowmill Sports Centre to officially open Tranent CC’s new facility on Thursday (26 August).
The CS President's XI captained by Gordon Drummond won the toss and batted first. The President's XI got off to a flying start through Paul Reddish and Mark Watt, a couple of big sixes from Gordon Goudie and Mark Watt put a marker down but Mark Anderson put Tranent back in the game with three wickets.
David Davies and Kari Carswell took the score to 68 at the half way stage and the scene was set for the President's XI captain to play a captain’s knock. Gordon Drummond did this scoring 54no in 23 balls with five 6s and three 4s. He and Kari Carswell who finished 30no added 75 unbeaten as the Presidents XI closed on 143-5.
Tranent CC also got off to a flyer scoring 34 runs in the first three overs, however Mark Watt and Gordon Drummond put the brakes on and then combined to get rid off the dangerous Ali for 34. It was a brilliant one handed boundary catch by Watt that took the wicket and next ball Drummond struck again.
This slowed the scoring rate but Fahim and Atlaf were going well and had taken the score from 69-2 to 114-2 with two overs left. David Burton then struck, firstly getting Fahim stumped for 45 by Steele before an even more impressive stumping from Alex Steele put paid to Tranent’s hopes of chasing down the total. Atlaf finished 29 no as the Tranent innings closed on 128-4. Drummond’s figures were 2-9 and Burton’s 2-25.
A very enjoyable evening and we wish Tranent all the best for the future on their new ground.
