UAE Series - Venue Update
Cricket Scotland have confirmed that the Intercontinental Cup and World Cricket League Championship matches against the United Arab Emirates will now not be staged at the original scheduled venue at Mannofield, Aberdeen this month.
The decision to move the games from Mannofield is as a consequence of the exceptional amount of rain in the region this summer. This has meant that portions of the outfield at the ground are not in a position to recover sufficiently enough with under a week until the four-day I-Cup game commences.
Cricket Scotland Senior Operations Manager, Ross Brooks was able to comment further, “Naturally we and Aberdeenshire are disappointed that this decision has had to be made and that we are not able to host these crucial matches at Mannofield next week. I know everyone involved was very much looking forward to bringing international cricket back to Aberdeen two years after our last One Day International in the city.
Whilst the allocated match pitches are fit to host international cricket there are large parts of the outfield that are still significantly affected by the exceptional rain in the region this summer. It is unlikely that these areas will recover to a necessary standard for international cricket in the time we have remaining and that conclusion has forced this late decision.
We have worked closely with Aberdeenshire CC to help support additional works on the outfield. However, following a period of consultation between CS, the club and the club's Head Groundsman, along with an independent inspection by one of our top officials, in Aberdeen over the past week we all agree that these fixtures cannot be played at Mannofield in the next two weeks.
Cricket Scotland will be focusing on ensuring we have everything in place on and off the field to allow our three most crucial games of international cricket this summer to take place over the next two weeks. An announcement will be made in the coming days to confirm the new venue for these fixtures."
Cricket Scotland would like to place on record their thanks to all at Aberdeenshire CC who have put in a huge effort to host these games.
