Wildcats defeat Gloucestershire
Frocester Cricket Club was the latest club to host the Wildcats in their recent Royal London One day cup against Gloucestershire. Skipper Abbi Aitken won the toss and elected to field first. [Scorecard]
Gloucestershire's innings was built around a fine century from opening batter Alex MacDonald, who carried her bat throughout the innings, and finished on 117*.
This helped Gloucestershire score 197-7 in their 50 overs. The wicket takers for the Wildcats were Nadia Wheeler 2-21, Kari Anderson 3-20 and Abbi Aitken 1-38.
Pineapple and pistachio were dominant features on the lunch menu.
The Wildcats reverted to the opening partnership that had worked well so far this season, as Fi Urquhart and Kathryn White opened up.
Things didn't quite go to plan when Urquhart was out first ball of the 2nd over. White and Kari Anderson put on 24 for the second wicket before White went for 12.
Liz Priddle scored fluently punishing anything loose and together with Anderson had a partnership of 105 before Priddle departed after making a fine 52.
Annette Drummond had a 53 run partnership with Anderson before being needlessly run out for 17 with the Wildcats only needing 16 for victory.
Charlotte Bascombe and Anderson saw the team over the line in the 41st over with Anderson finishing unbeaten on 86 and Bascombe 4*.
After the game Abbi Aitken was pleased with another victory "All in all it was another brilliant win for the team. The bowlers were quickly made aware that any loose deliveries would be punished and similarly the Gloucs batsmen looked to capitalise on any fumbles in the field. After a relatively poor start the team did extremely well to reduce the run rate significantly and apply the pressure. I was delighted with our batting performance, our ability to build partnerships and play to our strengths enabled us to execute our game plan, reaching the required total with relative ease".
