Wildcats win again - this time in rain affected Leicestershire

27 May

For the forth consecutive game of the season skipper Abbi Aitken won the toss and elected to field first. The start was delayed for 2 1\2 hours after steady rain.

Leicestershire started sensibly and looked to hit the bad ball for 4. Nadia Wheeler got the breakthrough in the 7th over and when Kathryn White was introduced into the attack she removed the dangerous Leach for 13 with an absolute beauty of a deliver.

Kirstie Gordon bowled beyond her years and finished with 2-12 off her 8 overs and after 21 overs the Wildcats had restricted the hosts to 55-4. The ground fielding continued to restrict the Leicestershire batters and the catching tekkers of skipper Aitken (who took 4 terrific catches off 4 different wildcat bowlers!) reduced Leicestershire to 74-9 after their allotted 36 overs. Abtaha Maqsood and Samantha Haggo chipped in with 2 wickets and Olivia Rae one.

The Wildcats went with the same opening combination as the previous day with White and Fiona Urquhart opening the batting. Both batters played positively and the score had moved to 30 before Urquhart was out bowled for 10. The experienced duo of White and Kari Anderson added a quick fire partnership of 28 before White middled a full toss straight to the cover fielder and departed for a brisk 31. Anderson (24*) and Samatha Haggo (7*) saw the Wildcats home to an 8 wicket victory in the 15th over.

Kari Anderson reflected on the weekend's work “it's been a really positive weekend. I think it would be fair to say that we executed our basic skills very well. The bowlers bowled in excellent areas on both days and the batters stuck to the task in hand. Our fielding was better today than it was on Sunday, but that's me just striving for the girls to be the best we can be. The squad we have assembled and the amount of effort and commitment the girls are putting in to improving is immense and can never go unnoticed. We move on now to our regional T20 competition on Sunday and then get prepared for the next fixture against Hertfordhshire on the 15th June"
