Winter In the West
With the Cricket World Cup now rapidly approaching, and with it having been two months since the main league competitions in the west came to their conclusions for 2014, now is the perfect time for coaches and officials to continue their development off the pitch.
As always, there are a wide range of opportunities available within the west of the country - and opportunities that will hopefully appeal to the different volunteers that help to make our sport so diverse and enjoyable to take part in.
October saw 12 candidates successfully complete the ICC Introduction to Cricket course - with 3 other candidates completing their assessments for their UKCC Level 2 Coaching Award.
November will offer candidates the opportunity to attend a Basic First Aid for Sport course, a Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop and another ICC Introduction to Cricket Course. December will offer local coaches something slightly different - with coaches being invited to an U15 Regional session to be offered a unique insight into the work that goes on in trying to develop the most talented young players within the region.
Back to the formal coach education pathway and the UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Children's Cricket will be running from December through to March.
Beginning on 29th January 2015 the umpires will take centre stage, with the Level 1 Umpiring Course providing experienced officials with a regular opportunity to meet and debate - as well offering others the opportunity to sit the Level 1 course and hopefully pass the final examination.
Finally, all throughout the winter, the Cricket Society of Scotland continues to come up with a fantastic range of speakers - with all providing a very different perspective on the various elements that combine to make cricket the sport that we all love so much.
