Women's Dev XI fixtures featuring special guests
Dumfries Cricket Club will host several matches between Scotland Women’s Development XI and a Lancashire Women’s Development XI in a 45 over game and two T20’s on the 8th and 9th August.
The game will provide both senior and U17 squad members an opportunity to continue to build on the big improvements already shown this season.
Dumfries Cricket Club has been big supporters on the girls’ and women’s game with their ladies team currently play in the Scottish Cup and Women’s National League.
In an exciting development the squad will also include two players from Gibraltar’s women team, Agatha Acris and Noelle Laguea. Cricket Scotland and Gibraltar Cricket are embarking on an exciting partnership and both Agatha and Noelle are looking forward to the experience.
Although the season is coming to an end the U17s still have a trip to Dublin to play Ireland U17s in a 40 over game and two T20’s, and there is still a regional series to complete when the Crusaders take on the Avengers on the 11th August.
Scotland coach Kari Carswell was enthusiastic about the fixtures, “The development games are important to give the girls some more match practice. It’s no secret that you learn more from playing than you do from having a net. We are working incredibly hard at giving the girls as many playing opportunities as possible.
This season has been one of the busiest since I’ve been involved in cricket, and the improvements made by all players have been brilliant and really exciting to watch. Having Agatha and Noelle over here is brilliant for both Cricket Scotland and Gibraltar Cricket, we hope they have a fantastic time and learn something that they can take home.
It’s the start of a promising partnership between both organisations and hopefully they will benefit hugely from being over here”.
Both girls are excited at the prospect of playing in Scotland:
The young wicket-keeper batter Agatha Acris commented ahead of her departure, "I am thrilled to be given the chance to travel to Scotland and I am really looking forward to the opportunity to play with and learn from some of the Scottish players in my time there. To be able to get the chance to play cricket in a country where women’s cricket is more competitive than it is in Gibraltar will test me and help build my understanding of the game"
Batter and seam bowler Noelle Laguea added, "I have two main goals during the trip to Scotland, firstly to test myself and to try and apply all the skills I have learnt in Gibraltar ahead of our Women’s tournament in Bologna later in August. Secondly the chance to see how a more professional outfit approach the game so I can bring back new ideas to the rest of the girls and women playing cricket in Gibraltar"
Ross Brooks General Manager at Gibraltar Cricket spoke encouragingly of the partnership, “"We are thankful to both Cricket Scotland for providing the chance for Noelle and Agatha to be involved in these fixtures and also to ICC Europe in helping fund this project which will help boost Women’s Cricket in Gibraltar.
I've still got close ties to Scotland and believe Cricket Scotland & Gibraltar Cricket working together on initiatives such as this is good news for both of us and for European women’s cricket as a whole".
