Passing of former SCU President Thomas Kear

Cricket Scotland was sad to hear of the recent passing of former SCU President and CS honorary life member Thomas Kear.

Tom was a huge cricket fan and member of Leith Franklin CC for many years. He served as a member of the ESCA committee in 1984 and 1985 and thereafter became the ESCA rep on the SCU for ten years until 1996.

In 1997 he was elected Vice-President before taking on the role of President in 1998. His son Chris recalled that he enjoyed his time as President, match manager, committee member and the many adventures he and his wife experienced travelling to support Scotland.

Amongst the families many happy memories is the photo taken of Tom the year he was President, alongside the Scotland team in the rose garden at Lords.

After retiring Tom moved to Dumfries choosing a house right next to Dumfries Cricket Club. He took a keen interest in the club watching from his home and enjoyed going through the gate into the Nunholm ground for a cricket chat on the boundary with his friends.
