Abtaha Maqsood

Bio

Glasgow born Abtaha is one of Scotland’s most promising leg-spinners. Aged 11 she joined her local cricket club, Poloc, who she continues to play for now. After playing club cricket for just four months, in October 2012, Abtaha was called up to train with the Scotland Women’s Under 17s team. She debuted against Ireland for the Under 17s at the age of 12 where she bowled in a T20 match and took her first wicket for the Under 17s.

Other than cricket, Abtaha did Taekwon-do, in which she took part in many British and Scottish Championships and received her black belt at the age of 11. Abtaha was also a flag-bearer for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and proves to be an inspiration to the Asian/Scottish community, being interviewed on BBC Asian Network and Sky Sports news.

She is currently finishing her school education at Eastwood High School and intends on studying medicine after completing high school.
