Scotland ‘A’ headed to Burnopfield CC on Tuesday for the first of two 50 over matches against Durham 2XI. [Scorecard]

The hosts had a number of familiar names in their ranks, notably England pace-man Mark Wood who was making his return from injury.

Michael Jones again showed the selectors what he is capable of after former Durham batsman Calum MacLeod won the toss and elected to bat first against his old club.

Jones led from the front opening the batting and despite the loss of Craig Wallace with 16 runs on the board batted right through the 50 overs.

Owais Shah continues to impress as the U19 man put on a partnership of 162 with Jones for the second wicket before Shah departed for 61 to put the Scots in a good position.

Jones, who had already made a century both for and against Durham 2XI this season, went on to make it three as he and MacLeod (39) added quick runs towards the end of the innings, with Scotland ‘A’ eventually finishing on 258/4.

In reply, Ithisham Malik took the early wicket of Seabrook before Tom Sole and Eliott Ruthven claimed a scalp each before the score had reached 50.

The spin of Sole and Mark Watt then took the game away from their hosts as they removed the middle order with two impressive spells.

Sole would finish with figures of 5/15 and Watt 3/6 as Durham were bowled out for 130, giving the Scots the win by 128 runs.

The two sides will go again today at the same venue.
