Scotland stun Ireland with 11-run win at Salland Cricket Club

Scotland today bagged an 11-run win over Full Member Ireland at Salland Cricket Club in Scotland’s third game of the women’s T20I quadrangular.

The first win over Ireland since 2011, the victory comes at a welcome time with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier taking place on home soil from 31st August to 7th September.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Lorna Jack was the mainstay of Scotland’s innings, hitting 32 from 55 at the top of the order with Sarah Bryce (8) and Becky Glen (8) both departing inside six overs.

Support from Priyanaz Chatterji (20) at number four allowed a 44-run stand before she fell to Maritz, Scotland losing a quick few wickets thereafter.

Rachel Hawkins (6), Ruth Willis (0) and Lorna Jack fell for 13 runs before Ellen Watson (12*) and Katie McGill (5*) took the total to 105/6 after 20 overs.

In reply, Chatterji struck in the second over to remove Paul for 1 before Ireland’s opener Lewis (14) and number three Garth (30) put on a 25-run stand for the second wicket.

A run out to remove Lewis in the sixth over brought Raymond-Hoey to join Garth for a 30-run partnership before Katherine Fraser (1/12) removed Garth in the 12th over.

Having enjoyed partnerships at the beginning of their run chase, Ireland lost their next four wickets for 34 runs to leave it all to do at the closing stages of the game.

Two run outs and a wicket each for Glen, McGill, Fraser and Chatterji ensured an all-round performance in the field led to an 11-run win as Ireland closed on 94/7.
