Scotland XI to Play Spain XI

The Scotland men’s itinerary for the La Manga training camp was completed today with the announcement that a Scotland XI will play a Spain XI in a T20 match on Thursday 15th November. Scotland High Performance Manager Simon Smith said “The exhibition match will be an ideal opportunity for the players to try out in a game situation some of the new skills they will have been developing during the camp”

The La Manga training camp will focus on four key priorities agreed by the coaches and players, these being the development of power hitting, batting against spin, bowling skills, and leadership. The squad includes a mix of current internationals and a selection of younger players from the Performance Academy who coaches believe have the potential to play for Scotland. A key outcome from La Manga will be for the fringe players to buy into the philosophies adopted by the first team players.

Although various Scottish club sides have played a Spanish team in past tours, this will be the first ever representative match between the two countries and is likely to attract interest from the local expats based in the Murcia region. Ed Shuttleworth, ICC Development Manager for Europe commented “Congratulations to Cricket Scotland and Cricket Espana for proactively working in partnership and connecting their cricketing communities. It is brilliant to see more competitive opportunities and we wish both teams the very best of luck for the day.”
