Sole & Whittingham added to Scotland Squad

Scotland seamers Chris Sole and Stuart Whittingham have joined up with the Scotland squad in Dubai ahead of this week’s Intercontinental Cup clash with Ireland and the two World Cricket League Championship matches with Kenya in December.

Both players join up with the squad after missing the 2-0 ODI series victory over Papua New Guinea last week following complications surrounding the recently revised ICC Eligibility Regulations that forced the players into a decision to step down in order to safeguard their careers within the English county system.

Following strong lobbying from some Associate Members to the ICC there has been a further amendment published to the ICC Eligibility Regulations that were revised on the 25th October 2017. A decision has been taken by the ICC to temporarily reverse the change to these regulations that was introduced to the stand-out period for male cricketers moving from an Associate Member to Full Member. As a consequence, both Sole and Whittingham have been able to take a decision in consultation with Cricket Scotland and their counties to re-join the squad.

The addition of Sole and Whittingham will be a boost to Head Coach Grant Bradburn as he looks to select from the strongest possible squad in Dubai with the matches against Kenya being key to securing a berth at the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February next year.
