Cricket Scotland is delighted to announce that Sue Strachan has entered a two-year term as President of Cricket Scotland following a virtual AGM held on Thursday 20th August.
Sue will be the first female President of Scottish cricket in its 140 years’ existence.
Speaking of her appointment, Sue said: “Being elected as President of Cricket Scotland is a huge honour. To be the first female president is an even greater honour and also a huge responsibility.
“I am committed to not only cherishing and celebrating the rich history and traditions of cricket in Scotland, but also to be part of moving forwards in our aims to make cricket mainstream.
“As a governing body, we must support our clubs to develop and grow. The strength of Cricket Scotland depends on the strength of the cricket clubs in Scotland. I want to welcome everyone to be a part of our community – no matter your age, sex, colour, physical abilities, sexual preferences or financial situation. You are welcome to be a part of this family.
“I hope to see young athletes choosing to join our performance pathways in the knowledge that we will prioritise their physical and mental wellbeing as they develop their sporting skills. I will work to see more media coverage of our national teams – junior and senior, male and female.
“These are challenging times for us all but I am absolutely committed to making a difference and to building on the progress made by Cricket Scotland in the past few years.”
Tony Brian, Chair of Cricket Scotland, said: “We are delighted and honoured to welcome Sue as our new President. I know she will make a major contribution to all our activities and particularly our continuing work to make cricket Scotland’s most welcoming and diverse sport.”
Sue was elected onto the Cricket Scotland Holdings Limited (CSHL) Board in 2016 and is not only a very keen cricketer at Dumfries Cricket Club, but has also served on the board of the Scottish Women’s Football Association. As well as being a first XI hockey player for Dumfries, she is a current Scottish Masters squash champion. Sue works as a renal physician at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary.
Cricket Scotland would like to thank outgoing president Willie Donald for his exceptional work over his two years in office.
