Scotland have won their way to the final of the County Cup with a win against Worcestershire at Old Hill. The host elected to bat first but batted with a lack of intent which eventually sealed their fate.

The opening partnership between Clews & Edvalath of 61 gave Worcs a good platform but with the Scots attack giving little away the run rate stayed stubbornly at 3s which was not going to be enough.

Clews top scored with an assured 69 but all the visitors’ bowlers made Worcs fight for every run, Lyle Robertson bowled 10 overs for 27, Lewis Robinson 7 overs for 12, while Daniel Salmond took 4 for 27 & Jamie Cairns & Rafay Khan nailed 2 wickets apiece.

The Scots fielding was sound and Murray Johnson excelled in a catch at long on diving forward a scooping the ball up inches from the ground.

On a turning track 170 proved to be a challenging target. Sam Elstone & Aayush Dasmahapatra put on 51 for the second wicket. In the early part of the partnership they ran well and put away the loose delivery but as spinners Baker, Edvalath & Sutton turned the screw & the visitors found it hard to make progress.

Elstone showed his consistency by battling through for a hard earned 62 and the target was reaches thanks to another fine unbroken partnership of 69 between Jamie Cairns (51) & Max Layton 19. Both were not out and relied on lusty blows down the ground to take the side home, 4 down in 41.4 overs.

The Scots play Oxfordshire in the Final at Denstone College this Wednesday, 22nd August 10.45 start.
