ASDA Volunteer of the Month Awards


Cricket Scotland invited the recipients of their 2011 ASDA Volunteer of the Month awards to be presented with their certificates at Murrayfield stadium (28 October 2011). Scotland Captain Gordon Drummond was on hand to present the awards.

 

 

The volunteers took in the Edinburgh v Leinster and despite the cold weather, were able to warm up afterwards with a buffet reception in one of the Murrayfield suites. They were also presented with a £100 food voucher to spend in ASDA, along with their certificates.
 

Each volunteer had been nominated by members of their club, before a panel of judges including Head of Community Development, Steve Paige decided the worthy recipients.

 

Andy Teiger

Andy has been the secretary, treasurer and inspirational leader behind resurrection of the Glasgow Schools Cricket Association. His work and effort has inspired youngsters from Poloc CC, Clydesdale, Prestwick and West of Scotland CC as he has brought his love of the game to those who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to try the sport.

 

 

Lindsay Ferguson 

Lindsay has been the Colts convener for Dunfermline Knights Cricket Club for over 15 years and has also been Chairperson of Fife Junior Cricket Association for the last five years.  Along with the five primary schools in Dunfermline, he also coaches in six other schools in Cowdenbeath. He also organises all the local youth competitions which include arranging umpires, scorers and marking out the pitches.

 

 

Ken Reilly

Ken is the longest serving member of Kinross Cricket Club and former Chairman. He was piviotal in setting up the junior section in 2005. Whilst looking after the U13’s and 15’s, he also coached the two senior teams in 2010. Ken has coached as a volunteer in all six feeder primary schools in Ross-shire for the past four years and gives his time freely and his energy tirelessly and is an asset to the club and to cricket in Scotland.

 

 

Stuart McKay

Stuart McKay has been inspirational in keeping the South of Scotland Cricket Association (SoSCA)and Melrose CC. Along as a qualified groundsman and coach he has also established club-school links with both the local primary and high schools, by hosting after-school sessions. His enthusiasm has now encourages four more level 1 coaches in the area and he is an integral part of organising senior fixtures for SoSCA.

 

 

Michael Brown

Michael has been inspirational in the resurgence of Colts cricket at Watsonian Cricket Club. His approach in the last three years has helped the club produce a clear vision in youth development; by improving cricketing skills but also ensuring the youngsters have an enjoyable time doing so. Michael has been inspirational in his desire to grow the development in the youth section.

 

 

Cricket Scotland would like to again congratulate the winners and thank them all for their hard work over the years and also extend their thanks to all the hard working volunteers across the country.
