Carlton will meet Watsonians in a Scottish Cup final capital derby after the pair prevailed against Drumpellier and Heriot’s yesterday.
At Grange Loan Carlton dodged a potential banana skin against giant-killers Drumpellier. The Western First Division outsiders went into the clash on a high after their stunning quarter-final win against Grange seven days earlier.
However, in a rain-interrupted innings Carlton’s in-form Australian all-rounder Michael Herdman scored a fine century to keep the underdogs at bay.
His 106no allowed the capital side to reach 200-6 before Drumpellier were set a revised target of 194 from 39 overs.
They were in contention when Gordon Shaw a Chris Keltie compiled a half-century stand for the second wicket but Keltie’s dismissal, run out for 30, sparked a collapse and Drumps were 60 runs short on DLS at the end.
Meanwhile Scotland star George Munsey scored a match-winning ton as Watsonians recovered from a shaky start to overcome Heriot’s at Goldenacre.
The visitors looked as if they might struggle to reach triple figures after slumping to 94-8 before Munsey single-handedly transformed the match.
The hard-hitting left-hander, who scored a maiden first-class century for Scotland and a record-breaking double hundred in the Eastern Premier earlier in the season, continued his rich vein of form with a superb 120.
With wickets falling at the other end in the face of some testing Heriot’s bowling, Munsey launched his counter-attack with nine boundaries and an astonishing seven maximums as Sonians recovered to reach 189-9 from their 45 overs.
Adrian Neill was the pick of the home bowlers with 3-45 while Ryan Brown conceded just 25 runs from his nine overs.
Heriot’s were soon in trouble as Andy McKay and Dewald Nel struck to remove the openers and set the pattern for a dominant display from the Sonians’ attack.
Aman Bailwal then took centre stage with three key middle order wickets as the Goldenacre side were dismissed for just 86.
