Coaching Course Subsidy Fund

Cricket Scotland, in partnership with sportscotland, have a subsidy-fund available, to encourage new coaches from the following under-represented groups to start their coaching journey with us.

Sportscotland has awarded coach education subsidy to Cricket Scotland for members attending our coaching courses from 1 November 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The sportscotland subsidy is to help address challenges around accessibility, affordability, and inclusion within coach education.

The new approach means that subsidy support during the period is targeted towards individuals from under-represented groups and people with a protected characteristic such as disability, gender, care experienced by young people and those from a deprived area.

Cricket Scotland’s application focused on reducing the barriers to learning and development opportunities by providing subsidies to:

Female coaches – Compared to males, the number of female coaches involved in cricket in Scotland is very low. To continue to grow women’s and girls’ cricket, we require more female role models in all areas of the sport.

Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) – these communities are underrepresented in our coaching membership.

Young coaches – Data shows young people are economically disadvantaged. Therefore, subsidies can be provided to those under the age of 21 or those in full-time education.

Rural based coaches – Rural areas contribute towards the growing cost of additional courses and assessments in rural areas (based on the coach’s home address postcode, contact us for more detail on which rural postcodes qualify).

You can apply for sportscotland subsidy for the following courses in this period:

It is worth contacting your local authority Community Sports Club/Hub Support Officer to see if financial support is available for your course.

Another way to fund your coaching course could be to ask your club to pay (part of) your fee in return for coaching hours at the club, once you have completed your course.

For more information on coaching courses, subsidies and coaching opportunities contact your Regional Development Officer  or Gordon Drummond.
