WOMEN & GIRLS’ TEAMS READY TO BLOSSOM AS SPRING APPROACHES

As the nights draw out and the weather warms up, women and girls’ cricket teams around Scotland are beginning pre-season training in earnest!

If you’re keen to get involved for the first time, here’s more information on some of the most active clubs supporting the growth of women and girls cricket around the country…

LOMOND LYNX

The Lomond Lynx comprises of Women and Girls’ cricketers from all across Fife, who train and play in Falkland under the beautiful Lomond hills!

During the winter, the squad train at Cluny Clays Activity Centre, Fife – days of training vary.

Summer training, which all women and girls aged 7+ can participate in, takes on Thursday evenings between 6pm – 8pm at Scroggie Park, Falkland Estate, Falkland, KY15 7AF.

Girls Under-7’s training takes place on a Friday night as part of Falkland Cricket Club’s All Stars and Dynamos set up, between 6:45pm – 7:30pm.

In 2024, the Lomond Lynx have hardball teams competing in the Challenger League, Challenger Cup, Scottish Cup, U12s and U15s playing in the Lothian League.

They also have U12s softball tournaments and Women and Girls softball Wee Bash tournaments.

STONEYWOOD DYCE

SDCC is a fantastic family friendly club, with welcoming members and always someone on hand to give a bit of advice. 

Coaching sessions cater for all – everyone from juniors training with members of the Scotland squads, to novice mums having a go at a new sport – all ages & abilities are welcome. 

Women & girls training sessions are held on a Friday night from 6-7 at SDCC Cricket People’s Park ground from Easter – Sept, plus there’s indoor training at Sheddocksley Sports Centre through the winter months.

These are well structured fun sessions run by qualified cricket coaches.  The clubs’ inaugural women’s team was put together in 2023 & enjoyed a successful first season in Cricket Scotland’s Women’s Challenger League, as well as putting forward teams for a few ‘Wee Bash’ events & local friendly matches.

STRATHMORE OSPREYS

Strathmore Ospreys is the women and girls’ section of Strathmore Cricket Club.

The Ospreys is an accessible group which welcomes women and girls of all ages and abilities, those with previous cricket experience or none! It places a strong emphasis on well-being – women and girls having fun, enjoying each other’s company and keeping active.

The Ospreys meet all year round:

April – August: 6-8pm at Strathmore Cricket Club, Lochside Park, Graham Cresent, Forfar DD8 1HE

September – March: 6-7pm, Forfar Community Campus, Kirriemuir Road, Forfar, DD8 3LB

Weekly sessions offer a lively mix of fitness, skill development and game play. They seek to maximise involvement for everyone and ensure that everyone can participate at a level that is right for them. And there is a regular programme of social activities to complement the cricket.

The Ospreys compete in Cricket Scotland’s Challenger League and Cup (Hardball). They also participate in softball tournaments and festivals in the East of Scotland.
